Marc joined the Marine Emergencies Organisation, which later became the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, in 1993.
After an initial period in procurement, providing equipment for search and rescue and counter pollution operations, he moved into seafarer training in 1998 where he managed the seafarer training and certification teams assessing and issuing UK Certificates of Competency before taking over management of the SMarT maritime training scheme.
He moved into the MCA Human Element team in 2007 years ago and has been heading-up the section for the past 6 years. He worked on the original development of HELM and MCA input to the highly successful Human Element Guide, the subsequent training film, led on Being Human in Safety Critical Organisations and is currently developing follow-up work with a focus on seafarer wellbeing. He chairs the Human Element Advisory Group, Human Element Development Group and represents the UK on Human Element issues at IMO.
