Kay-Johannes Wrede (*1959), CEO and creative head behind WREDE Consulting, identifies with Red Adair, the American oil well firefighter, who was known for his courage and innovative techniques to extinguish oil well blowouts. Similar to him, Kay believes there is a solution for every problem. This also applies to yacht building – provided that you’re able to think outside the box. This mindset enabled WREDE Consulting to be in the top spot among paint consultants in the superyacht business.
WREDE Consulting, founded in 1999, has since been involved in most of the top 200 superyacht projects. Besides, several WREDE innovations and procedures are accepted as an international standard. These innovations, for example, include a 3D scan procedure to survey complete hulls as well as the WREDE 10 Point Program (W10PP) for the assessment of coated surfaces.
In his current position, Kay can draw on his experience as a master craftsman of shipbuilding and his years as CEO in the family shipyard. He is also a sworn yacht surveyor, a certified paint consultant and a member of multiple organisations such as the IIMS and the ISO/WG 5° Committee (Large Yachts - Coatings).
In his spare time, Kay likes to participate in offshore sailing races on his restored Swan 441 “BEST BUDDIES”.
