MY top picks for the MY Show

After speaking with a number of brokers as they prepare for the industry's largest show of the year, I've rounded up a few of my favourite yachts that will be on display and why you should make time for them at this year's Monaco Yacht Show.…

Always featuring an extensive line up of the world's best superyachts, this year's Monaco Yacht Show promises no shortage of interesting new builds, concepts and previously loved yachts up for sale. After speaking with some of the industry's top brokers and previewing the yachts confirmed to be in the area thus far, I've drawn up a short list of three yachts you must try and make time for during the show.

Athena
Measuring an impressive 90m, Athena is the ultimate classic schooner with all of the finesse expected from a Royal Huisman. Completed in 2004 and featuring naval architecture and design by Pieter Beeldsnijder Design and Dykstra & Partners, she can accommodate up to 20 crew and comes equipped with five guest cabins. She is available for sale at $75mliion, or to charter at €395,000/pw. She will be on display with Ocean Independence and managing partner Peter Hürzeler commented "she is absolutely stunning and overwhelming and if you are interested in sailing yachts, then there is simply nothing like her".

Cakewalk
A relatively new build, 85.6m Cakewalk was completed in 2010 at Derecktor Shipyards in America and comes complete with a Tim Heywood exterior and Dalton Designs Inc. interior. With space for 14 guests and 28 crewmembers, she can reach cruising speeds of up to 15 knots and comes complete with quantum zero speed stabilisers. She is currently for sale through Burgess with a price tag of €119million with broker Matt Pinckney commenting "at just under 3,000gt, she is optimised for volume and as a result, has vast deck areas and a huge variety of different entertaining spaces."

Unfurled
Whilst the final pick is another sailing yacht by Royal Huisman, she could not be more different from the classic schooner above. A well respected racing yacht, 34m Unfurled has been a regular on the regatta scene for a number of years. She was completed by Huisman in 2000, and recently took first place at both the Loro Piana and Palma Superyacht Cup regattas, proving she is still one to look out for on the racing circuits. She is able to host six guests on board, with four crew and is currently for sale through Y.CO at €8.75million. Co-founder and Chairman of Y.CO, Gary Wright commented "we are always very excited about the MYS, as it's a great place for all of the leading yards and brokers to show their new launches, and is a brilliant showcase for the exciting opportunities already on the brokerage market".

Unfurled

Whether you're in the market, in the industry or just an interested passerby, the show comes equipped with something for everyone. Whilst it can be quite overwhelming, take your time, do your research and enjoy your time surrounded by the best that this industry has to offer in Monaco.
