The electronic navigation systems specialist ECDIS Ltd have successfully gained accreditation from the Nautical Institute for their type specific ECDIS training course. The accreditation is now available on a number of different ECDIS systems course including OSI, PC Maritime, Transas and Kelvin Hughes whilst JRC, Simrad and Totem are soon to gain accreditation. The company are planning to launch courses for the remaining ECDIS in the near future.

The courses train sailors in the safe usage of ECDIS systems-- systems that ultimately help to reduce accidents and loss of life at sea. Mal Instone, Director of Operations and Standards at ECDIS Ltd commented, “Experience and investigations show that many mariners are not sufficiently familiar with the basics and proper use of ECDIS. Knowing how to make proper use of electronic chart systems is fundamental to safe navigation, and this new course highlights our commitment to further that premise.”

Each course is one eight-hour day and includes presentations and practical exercises, it builds upon the knowledge attendees gained during an IMO 1.27 model course.
