The three themes of this year’s SuperyachtDESIGN Week, held from 23 – 25 June, and the three concepts we believe will shape the future of all superyacht ownership. Therefore, a fresh twist on previous sessions with superyacht owners, this year ‘Insight into the Process’ is a keynote presentation with Bill Duker of S/Y Sybaris and the interior design team behind that brought this stunning concept to actuality: Peter Hawrylewicz and Ken Lieber of PH Design Studio.
Duker, who spoke to The Superyacht Owner in 2013, has been fully immersed within the entire build process from the earliest stages. Choosing to design with Hawrylewicz and Lieber was a natural progression, having previously worked together with Duker on many of his residential projects across the US. For the Miami based design studio, however, this was their first fully-fledged entry into the superyacht world.
Sybaris
Duker’s relationship with superyachts began in the early 1990s, starting with 24.4m S/Y Coconut, then moving onto the 32.5m S/Y Shanakee and the 52m Feadship M/Y Rasselas, before Duker focused on creating his dream yacht: Sybaris, a 70m currently under construction with Perini Navi. Duker will discuss his direct involvement with all stages of the build, without an owner’s representative or a build captain, and how this has shaped the project to date. This unusual approach to a new build could signal a change in how superyacht owners communicate with their designers throughout this complex process.
The keynote session will explore Duker’s design taste, challenges throughout the build period and the launch of Sybaris, expected later this year. Using their expertise from outside the industry, Hawrylewicz and Lieber will provide a compelling glimpse into the interior team bringing Duker’s vision to life.
