Top industry experts to speak at MLC Meeting

The forthcoming Superyacht Management Meeting: MLC, Careers and Recruitment, being held in Palma on 25 April, will see a host of top level industry leaders take centre stage.…

On 25 April, in Palma, the second Superyacht Management Meeting (SMM) will focus on MLC, Careers and Recruitment in this one day interactive programme regarding the many questions and concerns over the new MLC requirements coming into force this August.

After releasing the complete programme earlier this month, Superyacht Events can now confirm the full list of speakers for each of the five sessions. Opening the meeting will be an important overview of the Convention with the added first hand experience of Chief Officer, Owain Rowlands sharing the process of a MLC inspection, after Ulysses successfully passed the first IOM inspection in 2012. Richard Eastham of Regs4Ships, and new comer Richie Blake of Cayman Registry will join Rowlands on stage to better illuminate the requirements of the Convention.

Session two's "Crewing Agents" plans to explore the new requirements for crewing agents under the Convention. Are these standards being met? Helping to shed light on the issues at hand will be Dieter Jaenicke of Viking Recruitment, and Nick Saul of Bachmann Marine Services. These experienced industry members will uncover what owners need to be aware of and how they can ensure a smooth transition.

Discussing the topic of "Training Quality" will be Lars Lippuner of Warsash Maritime Academy, and Lizzie Irving of Bluewater Yachting. These two key training facilities will share their own experiences with crew training and the expectations the industry are placing on new recruits regarding their knowledge of different safety procedures.

Blake will take to the stage once more alongside Neil Atkinson of the Maritime & Coastguard Agency to discuss the new requirements under the Convention for manning levels. What are the legal penalties for contravening these regulations? These issues and more will be further fleshed out during this session.

Closing the conference will be Saul, and Quentin Bargate of Bargate Murray, examining the Seafarers Employment Agreements (SEA) that is required by all seafarers whilst at sea.
