As 2011 draws to an end, we are pleased to announce that SuperyachtDesign Q9, has arrived! As always, we bring you the latest design and studio news along with the latest concepts hot off the drawing boards from around the world. As a special feature, we pay tribute to the late Vic Carless. The artist, who died aged 83, worked alongside some of the biggest names in the industry including John Bannenberg.

There are many considerations when designing the interior of a superyacht and relaxation has to be one of the most important, especially in a cabin. “The cabin space is no longer considered just a place to sleep, but more of a sanctuary,” explains interior design consultant, Georgina Cox. This issue explores the finer details that need to be considered in cabin spaces. In Materialist we look at one of the oldest materials known to man, wood has multiple aesthetic and structural applications, as Ed Roberts from Hodgdon Yachts explains.

We take you on a tour of M/Y Numptia in the company of her interior and exterior designers in Top Yacht, while in Perspectives, we talk to Christian Liaigre about his refined concept sketches for the interior of S/Y Vertigo.

Mark Stumer of Mojo Stumer talks to us about architecture, yachts and the interior design of M/Y Sky in Focal Point, as we spend two days in Turkey looking at two very different yachts in two very different shipyards with the H2 Yacht Design team in Case Study. An interview with Mike Kelsey Jr of Palmer Johnson, reveals how he sees the future of the depressed yacht building industry in the US, and shares how taking over from his father, Mike Kelsey Sr, has worked. We also hear from the Italian owner of 36-metre sloop, Canova by Finland-based Baltic.

Design Debate
once again touches on the very topical subject of design awards and asks six industry representatives what prestige awards confer on winners and who should be in the judging process. This issue also offers a review of the top products at the London-based design shows, Decorex and Focus/11.

Q9 is complete with concepts by a handful of known and new design studios including Andrew Winch Design, Ken Freivokh and Sparkman & Stephens. Not forgetting our Guest Suite columns by Luiz de Basto, David Egan, Alex McDiarmid and Francesco Paszkowski.
