A two-day conference and exhibition, to be held in London in November,
is designed to highlight and resolve key areas of concern in regard to
the fast-approaching ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information
System) 2012 deadline.
Called "The ECDIS Revolution", the conference, workshop and exhibition will bring together key stakeholders to present possible solutions to help attendees ensure ECDIS compliance is achieved. By 2012, many vessels will have been fitted with ECDIS and the conferences is designed to address concerns that many of their operators will be lacking the adequate training to use and understand the system and its capabilities. The cost of attendance is £595 excluding VAT per person.
The Manila Amendments to STCW, which will come in to force in January 2012, include ECDIS as a required competence, meaning deck officers serving in a vessel fitted with ECDIS must have conducted approved ECDIS training.
"We are really excited to bring this important event to London. The level of interest has been really high with delegates already booking from all over the world. To make this a truly interactive event, [it] will consist of a one and a half day conference, followed by a half day workshop, with an interactive exhibition of ECDIS equipment running alongside on both days," says Lorna Titley, one of organiser, Quaynote Communications', directors.
The event, chaired by Nick Lambert, national hydrographer of the UKHO, will have Jeremy de Halpert, deputy master of Trinity House, as keynote speaker, as well as featuring speakers from the MCA, ECDIS ltd, Isle of Man Ship Registry and the Royal Institute of Navigation, among others.
