A growing cultural cluster

Working hard to maintain the uniqueness and cultural heritage of the Urk region in the Netherlands, the maritime cluster continues to grow with the addition of Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology and first appearance as a group last month.…

After joining the Urk Maritime cluster in February, Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology has helped to grow and strengthen the presence of the region's yacht industry. Having spent time in Urk at HISWA 2014, it was obvious that the region takes pride in their maritime roots and strive to stay true to the principals the area was built on. Established on a fishing industry, the former island has access to one of the busiest shipping routes in shipbuilding, maritime services, offshore and inland and coastal shipping.

By coming together as one association, the cluster aim is to coordinate the promotion of the maritime skills of Urk companies, strengthen their position as a nautical centre and create more networking opportunities at home in the Netherlands and on a more global scale. The group presented themselves for the first time as a unit at the Maritime Industry 2015 exhibition in June.
