Valentine's Wobbly Club Race is charitable success
After much anticipation from the crew industry, the Association of Yacht Support Services (AYSS) can announce that at the conclusion of the Wobbly Club Race, an impressive East Caribbean $14,000 (approximately £3,106) was raised for the Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue (ABSAR).
The 2014 Wobbly Club Race took place on Friday 14th February, with 14 crew teams entered the Valentine's Day-themed build your own love boat raft race - more than previous years - which, as always, resulted in some amusing antics for spectators and all those involved. Strong winds meant that some teams only managed to make it a few metres before their rafts sunk while 'rose and loved one' themed crew had to be collected halfway round the course.
The winners of the race and best raft design were Juteson Antigua (IO of Wight and Cygnus Montaus) with Team We Won't Sink (Newport Shipyard and sailing yacht Selene) winning the sailing category. 'First to sink' and 'best cheaters' went to Queen Lorb (sailing yacht Hound, while Wasted Seamen (Skat) won 'best team spirit', completing the course fully submerged.
AYSS wishes to think all those who made cash donations, donated prizes and provided support for the event, as well as the competitors, sponsors, volunteers and clean-up crew.
