In view of the fast developing Brazilian market Imtech Marine will open an office in Santos in September of this year. This move means that now Imtech Marine has its own presence in the South American market. It is in line with Imtech Marine’s strategy to extend its service network to all major ports in the world.
Santos will soon be followed by a new office in Rio de Janeiro. Eric van den Adel, Managing Director of Imtech Marine said, “We have a true global presence and are 'just around the corner' for many shipping companies with our 90 plus offices. We are proud to have added Brazil to our global map, where the offshore industry is an important, growing market."
Imtech Marine already handles a substantial number of service calls a year in the Brazilian ports alone. And many customers in Brazil already benefit from Imtech’s navigation /communication and power automation solutions.

Appie Hijstek, Imtech Marine Operations Manager Global Services, setting up the Imtech Marine network in Brazil said, “Customers have indicated to us that they would like us to be present in Brazil for service and installation support on the spot, due to the fact that they have ship operations in and around Brazil and like to have us close by. Furthermore, the Brazilian yards are keen to find companies capable of delivering large systems integration and electric automation projects. Imtech Marine, renowned for its system integration and technology capability, can help.”
“Brazil is the biggest emerging market for the maritime industry at the moment, huge investments are being made. And this means there is a huge demand for drilling, pipelaying vessels and the related service vessels such as the Anchor Handling Tugs, crew tenders, accommodation vessels, research vessels etc. We have spent a lot of time exploring the country, and amongst others we hosted an extensive Brazilian trade mission group to our Rotterdam office in June.”
Imtech Marine is also a member of the Dutch government-backed Holland Marine House Brazil, based in Rio de Janeiro, which promotes Dutch maritime technology.
Currently, Imtech is carrying out the electrical installation for two new build 83 m research vessels. They are being built by Dutch shipyard group Damen in partnership with Wilson Sons, renowned Brazil shipping & offshore company. This project started end-2011 and the vessels are due to be completed in the first half of 2014.
Imtech Marine is optimistic about the potential of the Brazilian market. In the wider region, Imtech Marine has stations in the region at Curacao, Aruba, Trinidad and Panama.
