YPY announces inaugural international event, reflecting its global expansion
Event in the pipeline to celebrate its worldwide development…
What started in Fort Lauderdale, USA in 2009 and was named Young Professionals in Yachting, often referred to by its abbreviation YPY, soon founded a second ‘chapter’ in Monaco, followed by London, the Netherlands, Germany and New Zealand. These six so called ‘chapters’ will shortly be joined by a Spanish one as well.
Organic growth
The rapid, organically expanding global group now counts over 500 young and ambitious land-based professionals. What they all have in common is that they work in the yachting industry and are under the age of 40. While each chapter operates as independent non-profit organisation, registered in their respective locations and raising their own funds, they carry the same name and are founded upon the same principles: networking, education and ethics. YPY is also a great gateway to attract and welcome new talents to the yachting industry.
Being international by being local
Each chapter has a board of directors, who organise frequent events for their members, creating opportunities to network, learn, challenge and be inspired by high-level guest speakers.
Fun is also an important feature of course, but business is certainly the leading and also connecting element. There are so many disciplines and backgrounds present in these rooms, it is very inspiring and not unusual that new ideas and even collaborations have followed.
When a chapter organises an event in their location, members of other chapters coincidently visiting are most welcome to join. This makes the network more global and of value when being abroad.
As a result of the chairs of each chapter meeting at boat shows, an international board was appointed. This group exists of a liaison from each chapter, jointly tasked with bringing the various chapters closer together and to explore what can be done more to grow the network and especially to facilitate the interaction and bonding between the 500+ members that make up YPY globally.
Inaugural international event
The international board presented the idea to hold an international event in June 2019 where members of all chapters gather to celebrate our valuable network and to get to know members from other chapters better. This inaugural event is envisioned to be the kick-off of annual or biannual YPY international events. This event will take place in Croatia with sea sailing and island hopping being a large part of the programme. As YPY is always focused on business and education, there will be workshops and assignments created as well. Moreover, inspiring guest speakers are being approached to speak before this international group.
Consciousness
The central theme of the YPY Inaugural International Event is ‘consciousness’, reflecting the positions young professionals currently find themselves in to be conscious of all kinds of developments and trends, in order to drive improvements and new industry ethos as future industry leaders, fostering long-term success.
Industry attention
The network grew rapidly and from the bottom up, and it has not stayed unnoticed. Each chapter has an impressive list of industry players as their members and sponsors, recognising the value that this network has created.
This newly announced inaugural YPY international event has already received great commitment from Feadship, Lürssen and Rybovich as Captain sponsors, SOS Yachting as Navigator sponsor, and Deramar and Lift Emotion as crew sponsors, making it possible to organize a memorable inaugural international event for YPY.
