Roger graduated from Edinburgh University in 1980 with an honours degree in Electronic Engineering with Industrial Management, and started his career as a graduate trainee with Racal Decca, specialising in marine navigation systems and electronic warfare.
In 1982, he started his first business, developing bespoke software for the insurance broker market. This grew into a specialist back office system adopted by Eagle Star in conjunction with IBM. Meanwhile, every spare moment was spent sailing and racing on the Solent.
In 1990 his company was acquired by Vistec plc. He continued as Managing Director for 2 years, after which he and his wife Nicky left to go on what turned into a 4-year sabbatical, long-term sailing in the Med and Caribbean.
The appeal of developing a technology business in yachting eventually outgrew the attraction of azure waters and palm-fringed beaches and in 1996, upon returning to Mallorca, Roger founded e3 Systems with the idea of providing innovative electronic services to the superyacht market.
Over the last 20 years, e3’s innovation timeline shows a consistently impressive set of introductions. The most recent and disruptive is the Kymeta flat panel satellite antenna. Roger is currently developing e3 in order to deliver this worldwide, having been appointed as the exclusive global distributor to the yacht market.
