| apbjackson Oct 19 2006 | I think that this forum will be a good venue for letting other Captains know of any particularly good experiences with regards to service providers and suppliers within our industry. It might not be a good idea to write negative references, however, good ones should not cause any offense.
I had the pleasure of visiting Bayship and Yacht in San Francisco in September 2006.
The management at Bayship is trying to develop their presence in the super yachting refit and repair market. To this end, they have invested heavily in their facility, which is still partially under construction.
My visit was as Captain of Twizzle (55m de Vries) - our work list was not enormous and our stay in the yard was only 10 days. We found the yard to be enthusiastic and efficient in all respects. The work that was done was (mostly) first class and the work force clearly understand the importance of care and attention when working on a Super yacht.
The pricing of the work was very fair and there were certainly no hidden surprises when it came to settling the bill. The management was also keen to meet on a daily basis and to keen us well informed of their plans and progress. They were also keen to debrief us at the end of our visit to get any negative comments as well as our praise for their good work.
I am convinced that Bayship and Yacht is a great asset to our industry, and I would certainly not hesitate in using their services again.
In 20 years of yachting, I have received some excellent service from a wide variety of suppliers.
I do not wish to list all of these, as I am bound to forget some and cause offense - so I will just go as far as to list the best of the best over the last few months -

Juneau - Amy Wachmann - wonderful agent
Vancouver - Rod Dunbar (provides the waiver pilots) and Coal Harbour Marina
