Proxima is the first concept to come from designer Roland Friedberger, who worked on Messerschmitt Yachts’ 90m Conqueror and the Bulwark series. The new design, which comes as a 57m and 50m, was presented yesterday at the Monaco Yacht Show, under Friedberger’s own label, RF Yachts. “To make a step into the future means you have to think about a human´s urge to explore the galaxy,” said the designer. “This expression of form has now been transcribed into the modern expression of surface and Proxima shows clear lines and soft elegant transitions. The accents are masculine and sporty.“

A long arch form, straight sides and a curved axe bow aid in creating a modern and aggressive-looking exterior. For long journeys, the high hull design offers additional security as well as a large storage space at the lowest level. The streamlined shape not only increases the speed of the vessel but also improves consumption when at cruising speed. The idea of improved consumption will also applied in the construction of the interior in order to save as much weight as possible.

Large panorama windows allow plenty of light into the interior spaces and with electronically controlled darkening glass, the amount of light allowed to penetrate can easily be managed. Accommodation is provided across four guest suites and a VIP cabin with en suite, with four double cabins for crew on the lower deck. The mater suite, with a his and hers en suite and two balconies, is situated on the main deck along with the main salon and dining area. Extensive lighting has been used to create a special ambience within the salon, which is mirrored in the stairs that lead up to the upper deck. This level includes a bar, sun loungers with storage for cushions, a table able to seat 10 guests and the guest salon that links to the main deck a level below. Again, specifically positioned lighting help to create a relaxing ambience when evening falls.

Friedberger, who made the decision to focus on the superyacht arena in 2007 after having started his career in 1990 as a marketing and product designer, presented Proxima at Taiwan-based, Jade Yachts’ booth.

Working together with Russian brokerage house, Jonacor Marine in Saint Petersburg, RF Yachts is keen to find a client interested in taking the project forward. There are already plans to present visuals of the interior as well as developing the 57m and creating a 43m version of Proxima in 2012.
