Floating Life Charter & Brokerage has announced that it has been assigned the exclusive development of a new 40m light ice class vessel, the project will be undertaken at the Cerri Cantieri Navali (CCN) shipyard after a deliberation process that included ten competing shipyards. The primary concern of the owner is that he/she requires a superyacht capable of undertaking lengthy polar expeditions.
“The choice of CCN is the result of a selection proves involving ten yards worldwide,” says Andrea Pezzini, Floating Life’s CEO. “What tipped the scales was not only an excellent quality to price ratio, but above all the yard’s willingness to examine a completely custom project created to be able to undertake a voyage around the world.”
Developed by the Studio Sculli of Sarzana, MY K40’s brief demanded four decks, including an exclusive owner’s deck, spacious interior and exterior areas, galley and storage areas equivalent in size to a 50m vessel, an amidships tender garage for a seven metre tender and a gross tonnage of below 500GT.
MY K40 will have a steel hull, reinforced to meet Ice Class requirements, and an aluminium superstructure. The exterior styling is modern minimalist and the vertical elements will be constructed from glass where possible, as is the current trend. Interior design will be kept ‘sober’ with well lit spaces and a balance of wood trim, lacquer and cloth.
A beach area with theatre, locker rooms, a diving equipment area, open air dining, sunbathing areas and a barbeque and bar on the sun deck complete MY K40’s comfort areas. Each deck has its own service pantry and special attention was paid to the crew areas to ensure comfort over extended voyages.

Construction is to begin January 2016. Aluminum will be cut once aerodynamic analysis of the superstructure has been completed.
