Lurssen’s 66m Ester III listed for sale at €79.5 million
The 66m Lurssen-built motoryacht, Ester III, known during its construction as ‘Project Green’, has been listed for sale with David Legrand of Fraser Yachts. She is currently in Gibraltar and has an asking price of €79.5 million.
In 2014, Ester III was constructed in steel and aluminium and launched out of the German yard’s Rendsburg facility to the high acclaim of being the first sub-80m Lurssen delivery since 2011. Just prior to the inception of this build, this particular facility had been immersed in the three-year construction of the world’s current largest motoryacht by LOA, 180m M/Y Azzam.
“It’s true we’re associated with larger yachts, but our product line extends from 60m all the way up to our top limit of 220m”, said Michael Bremen, sales director of Lurssen, at the time of Ester III’s delivery.
The owner had a 36m build when he first met Øino, after which he bought a 51m Codecasa build, M/Y Iliki VIII, subsequently renaming her Ester II, but his appetite remained unsated. His conversations with Espen Øino, the naval architecture and exterior design studio behind the build, included some key features that resulted in an agreed length of 66m.
Notable features include the helideck above the wheelhouse and the tender bays, which are forward and higher up than on most, allowing the aft, the beamiest area of the yacht, to be utilised for accommodation. She has a 5m swimming pool with a contra-jet system, an elevator accessing all decks and a finely detailed Reymond Langton interior, with accommodation for 12 guests over six staterooms. There was also a carbon fibre tender styled by Øino to resemble the mothership.
Her gross tonnage of 1,527gt exceeds the average 62.5 – 67.5m motoryacht by 273gt, proving that she has a deceivingly large interior volume inside what is a petite looking exterior frame; typical of Lurssen’s style.
Three of the larger 70 – 80m Lurssen builds – TV, Martha Ann and Northern Star – have all been on the market for some time now, accruing €95.01 million in price reductions between them since coming onto the market. However, as a younger, smaller and altogether different style of build, you wouldn’t expect this to have any bearing on Ester III’s position in the market.
