Perini Navi prepares for 38m C.2130 launch
The Perini Navi Group, the Italian sailing yacht design and construction specialist, has announced the mast stepping and launch of hull C.2130, sister ship to the award-winning P2 launched in 2008.
The mast itself is a 51.4m carbon fibre design, which will combine with a 14m furling boom and composite standing rigging for a sail plan surface area that exceeds 1,870sqm. The yacht is scheduled for launch on the 5th of March and will be christened S/Y Dahlak.
With exterior styling by Philippe Briand and the build carried out entirely at the Perini Navi Group’s Picchiotti shipyard in La Spezia, the sloop is designed to be effortlessly fast and takes her name from the Red Sea archipelago where her owner sailed as a boy. “The owner was insistent that Dahlak is a family boat in every sense of the word,” says Burak Akgul, managing director of sales, marketing and design at Perini Navi. “By that he meant not only his own family, but also the Perini Navi family."

Dahlak and P2 share the same rig configuration and basic naval architecture, including a near-vertical bow and a high-aspect ratio sail plan for fast upwind sailing. The key differences lie in construction. Where P2 had a composite superstructure, Dahlak has an all-sealium aluminium alloy build. This lightweight build and the use of composite components will deliver a displacement of 162tonnes, slightly up on P2's stated 151tonnes.
The yacht will boast several technical innovations, including a Lithium polymer battery system for silent running – a first for Perini Navi and a reason for the yacht's slightly higher displacement. The lithium polymer system will provide a total of 136kWh of electrical energy for the vessel. Depending on which sailing and hotel systems are in use, the battery banks can provide up to eight hours of power with the fixed-speed generators switched off, resulting in less noise and fewer diesel emissions. Like P2, the lifting keel can vary draught from 3.5m to 5.5m, but the extra weight of the batteries low down in the hull, combined with a heavier torpedo bulb, removed the need for water ballast.
The custom interior design was conceived by Perini Navi, with accommodation for eight guests across three cabins, including a full beam owner’s stateroom.
Dahlak’s new owner was quoted as saying, “A synthesis of performance and speed, beauty and comfort, she is a dream come true. We are delighted to have worked so closely with the Perini Navi team, who accurately interpreted our needs and collaborated with us to define every detail and innovation.”
C.2130 will be named Dahluk
