Christensen christens 'D'Natalin IV' with owner at Gig Harbour

Christensen Yachts has delivered the trideck 48.78m D’Natalin IV , which is significantly, the first Custom Series yacht to be delivered by the shipyard since the 2008 global recession. After successfully completing sea trials off the coast of Oregon state at the mouth of the Columbia River, she was presented to her owner, Dennis Jones, on the May 27, who will claim this as their fourth superyacht, but first superyacht built by Christensen.

Christensen Yachts CEO, Joe Foggia, told SuperyachtNews.com that sea trials were an overall success: “All went very well, as the vessel exceeded contractual requirements for speed and range” and added that “the overall delivery took place in Gig Harbour, Washington where we ended up having the christening shortly after delivery. It was a fun-filled event with the owners, their family and long time friends. Definitely a success!” Foggia added that it is customers such as the Jones family who they truly appreciate, especially coming out of the financial crisis and this particular yacht hall-marked the brand.

Launched in April, the 49.9m features a striking navy blue hull, white superstructure and a red boot stripe, designed by the Christensen in-house naval architecture team. Both the hull and superstructure are of composite construction, using the shipyard’s proprietary vacuum infusion techniques.

Carol Williamson & Associates spoke to SuperyachtNews.com about the design of the interior describing the design process as “very straightforward” adding that “The client's desired interior design direction was very clear: elegant, transitional with a traditional undertone, comfortable and inviting for their family and friends. They use their yacht extensively and they wanted it to be user friendly as well as beautiful.”
Williamson also said that the owners stayed involved in the project right until the end and “were an integral part of the final selection of the accent lighting, furniture styles and the material selection for the soft goods. They loved integrating pattern and texture into each of the spaces on the boat.

They requested that the colour palette on the main exterior aft deck complement the gold and cream palette of the main salon and dining room to create a strong connection between the exterior and interior spaces. According to Williamson, the placement of the owner’s art collection was also an integral part of each space on board.

Project manager and broker at Merle Wood Associates, Christian Bakewell, represented the owner on the project and explained his involvement was deeply rooted from day one: “I wrote the build specification, negotiated the contract price, and project managed the construction. It was a very gratifying project on so many levels, but mostly because the entire Jones family are such quality people.”

In a statement to the media, owner, Dennis Jones said: “Christensen outdid themselves in delivering the most advanced yacht in their history! “My family and our project lead, Christian Bakewell, worked very hard with the designers and engineers to get the details right. I could not be more pleased with the results. The layout of her four spacious decks make D’Natalin IV the most comfortable yacht I have ever owned, and I never get tired of staring at her beautiful blue hull.”

Jones added that their, “plans for our maiden voyage had us staying on board for 11 days, but we were enjoying our new yacht so much we ended up staying 29 days!”
