2012 busy for new build and refit at Lurssen

2012 has been busy for leading German shipyard Lurssen. As well as completing several significant refit projects, three very individual and different yachts were launched this year by the yard Lürssen:

The first yacht, which was delivered in May 2012, is the 85m Ace. Andrew Winch, responsible for the exterior as well the interior design, gave the yacht a very unusual profile. Large side arches surmounted by oval side balconies where the yacht's name is placed. The cream colored hull with the white superstructure underscores the elegance of this yacht. Ace is spending her first summer in the Mediterranean and will cruise in the Caribbean for the winter season.




August saw the second yacht delivered: the 147,25 m Topaz. Two of the world's top designers were involved in one of the biggest yachts of the world: Tim Heywood gave Topaz a very elegant appearance not withstanding her size and Terence Disdale is responsible for her very exclusive interior.




The third yacht was launched at the end of August: the 86m project Bellissimo, named Quatroelle. She is designed by Novulari-Lenard and she will be sure to turn a lot of heads when she is delivered to her owners in the autumn. Built to LY2 she is 86.11 m long and has a fresh contemporary interior.



With several more yachts currently under contract, the shipyard continues to market and build yachts ranging in size from 60 m up to well over 150m.

In addition to their successful new build division, Refit, Repair and Conversion has become a core business for Lürssen. During the last fifteen months 11 yachts between 46 and 125 metres have used the Lürssen facilities for modifications. Amongst them are some of the world's most beautiful yachts including Pelorus, Carinthia VII, Rising Sun, Dragonfly and Ice.

One of the bigger refits, that completed in spring 2012, was that of Titania, formerly known as Apoise. Undertaking the refit after purchasing her at auction - "Apoise sold to UK bidder" - the owner wanted to make her more attractive for the charter market. During her 8 month stay at the yard she was lengthened by nearly 4 metres to give room for a beach club; a majestic second master suite was added on the upper deck and the sundeck was fitted with a magnificent gym.  In addition, the whole boat has undergone a complete face-lift from the technical side up to the repainting of the hull and superstructure to make her as good as new.
