Maxi Dolphin returns to superyacht market
By William Mathieson
Comments
Italian boatyard, Maxi Dolphin has returned to the superyacht arena with the construction of a 30.48m Finot-Conq designed sailing yacht. The vessel is designed with racing in mind with the widest element of the boat located aft and a hard chine that runs the length of the hull. There are also two nine-tonne ballasts fitted port and starboard to boost manoeuvring when racing.
The cruiser is fitted with a lifting keel and two rudders and is built from carbon and Nomex, using pre-preg technology.
Despite being built for performance the ‘Racing Cruiser’ pedigree of the yacht will be accompanied by a refined and high-tech interior layout , with space for up to 12 guests, as well as three to four crewmembers. All guest cabins, except one, will be positioned at the bow of the vessel.
Underneath the deck, aft, there will be the garage for a tender with a door that is convertible into a swim platform.
The major challenge during the course of the yacht’s construction was ensuring that she does not exceed 51 tonnes. Once completed she will be launched in May 2013 and will embark on a busy racing schedule from the end of the year onwards. She will be premiered at the Maxi Rolex Cup in September 2013.
