'Achilles' transported through Italian streets for launch

Sanlorenzo’s 46m superyacht Achilles, the fourth in the shipyard’s 46m series, travelled across the Italian city of Massa-Carrara to undergo her launch into Italian waters. The city which saw her launch is also home to a Sanlorenzo shipyard.
Unusual for anything of such size to travel through the city of Massa-Carrara, a specialist team and huge deployment of forces to were needed to transport the motoryacht and block off the road’s night-time traffic.
Having arrived at the marina, the tri-deck motoryacht was launched via a floating metal platform that gently lowered her into the sea.
Of the tri-deck Achilles, her main deck, upper deck and skylounge have all been constructed in aluminium, whilst two decks comprise her steel displacement hull: the lower deck, for guest and crew accommodation, and the under-lower deck for technical and service zones.

The interior of the 46 Steel has been inspired by the interior layouts of superyachts larger in size, with the aim of ensuring large volumes and maximum comfort. As a result, a large hull was designed by the shipyard’s technical department, featuring a bulbous bow and open stern.
The 46m motoryacht is powered by two Caterpillar engines which allow her to cruise at 15 knots and reach a maximum speed of 17 knots.
Specifications of Achilles:
LOA: 46m
Beam: 9.3m
Draught: 2.65m
Builder: Sanlorenzo
Gross tonnage: 499gt
Engines: 2 x CAT 3512B DITA-SCAC High Displacement
Cruising speed: 15 knots
Max speed: 17 knots
