Feadship's 42m superyacht 'Masquerade of Sole' leaves Pendennis as 47m 'A2'

This summer the south coast of the UK has been the epicentre of yachting activity; the host of the Pendennis Cup, the Oyster Regatta Cowes, and in just three days time it will add the Superyacht Cup Cowes to its impressive list of yachting events.
The celebrations of Falmouth-based Pendennis shipyard, however, did not end with the close of the Pendennis Cup, but with the completion of the year-long refit of Feadship’s 1983 Masquerade of Sole. The 42m motoryacht arrived at the yard in the spring of 2011, leaving over 12 months later in July 2012 under the new name of A2.
The refit objective was to completely transform the 1983 vessel into one reflective of modern design and technology, and began with the complete removal of her interior systems, leaving just the base steel hull and aluminium superstructure.

Southampton-based naval architect BMT Nigel Gee worked with the shipyard’s technical team to extend the hull by 5m across all three decks, and the superstructure was modified to incorporate a full beam master cabin, all topped off with a full paint job.
Other features of the refit included major superstructure modifications, re-engineering of all systems, new deck equipment, a rebuild of the engine room, and installation of modern bridge technology and AV equipment.
New York-based Peter Marino Architect was appointed by the owner to design the yacht’s contemporary owner and guest areas, whilst the majority of the interior layout has been re-configured, manufactured and installed by the Pendennis team who worked closely with interior build experts throughout the project.

Leaving the yard in mid-July of 2012, over 12 months after she entered the yard for her extensive refit, A2’s design and performance have been upgraded, and the now 47m superyacht can cruise at a speed of 14 knots.
