Twenty-month-old Italian shipyard Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) has launched its second model in the Darwin Class 86’ series, the 26m explorer motoryacht Percheron.
The 26m Percheron, designed by Sergio Cutolo, features a very different layout from the first in the Darwin Class 86’ series, Vitadiamare3, that marked the beginning of the Ancona-based shipyard’s journey. “The yachts that we build here at Cantiere delle Marche are designed into their owners’ image,” said Ennio Cecchini, Chief Executive Officer of CdM. “Percheron in particular stands out for the intensive and mainly family purposes.”
The yachts in the Darwin Class, according to the shipyard, “[keep their] DNA unchanged, maintaining all the chromosomes that allow it to satisfy its owner’s seagoing yearnings in waters anywhere in the world.” The yachts in the series range from 21m to 40m, and include extra-thick steel plates, engines of heavy-duty dimensions and, according to CdM, construction details normally found on ships of 40m+. “The yacht’s interior design distinguishes itself thanks to the linearity and lightness of the materials – elm and white lacquer – geometrical details of carpentry, vivid ethnic tissue designed by the Maison Hermès Paris, and a deep attention to the spaces for the children,” said Sales and Marketing Director of CdM Vasco Buonpensiere. “Everything has been thought considering the personality and voyage plans of the owner.”

The Ancona-based shipyard, which aims to make its yachts eco-compatible with the option to outfit its new range of Nauta Air vessels with Azipod electric diesel engine systems, is a strong supporter of the Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galapagos Islands. The shipyard has pledged to donate what it has termed “a significant amount” from each vessel sold to the non-profit organisation steered to provide scientific research and technical information and assistance to ensure the conservation of the islands for the future.
So what next for the Percheron? “The owners will leave from Cannes, cross the Atlantic Ocean and reach the Caribbean and Florida,” said Cecchini. “They will then set course for South America until [they reach] the Argentinean coasts. From there, they will cross the Panama Canal and reach the Galapagos Islands.”
Percheron will be presented in September at the Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes, following which her US debut will take place at the Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Palm Beach boat shows.
