Benetti Yachts launches 44m superyacht 'Checkmate'

Benetti Yachts has launched its 43.6m superyacht christened Checkmate. Previously known as BV018, the motoryacht is the fifteenth in Benetti Yachts’ Vision line.

On Saturday 9 June 2012 Checkmate entered the waters of the Darsena Italia Basin, the home of the Benetti Yachts shipyard. Her US owner was present at the ceremony (a surgeon from Washington, D.C.), as was his family and all the Benetti staff involved in her construction and outfitting, which began almost two years ago.

Stefano Righini led the superyacht’ styling and external concept, whilst her interior has been created by Françios Zuretti and an in-house design team and features a combination of cherry and Burr Madrona woods, and neoclassical dark inlays enhanced by marble.



Checkmate’s twin 1300 HP Caterpillar engines allow her to cruise at 14 knots and reach a top speed of 15 knots.

“We are particularly proud of our latest launch, the one hundredth fibreglass yacht built in Viareggio since 1998,” said Vincenzo Poerio, chief executive officer of the superyacht division of the Azimut Benetti Group. “This is a further demonstration of Benetti’s ability to listen to the client and interpret his specific needs. And, above all, another example of a perfect blend between timeless design, world class construction, safety, and an extremely high quality on board life, both for the owner and his crew.”
