Superyacht Launches in May 2012

It has been another bumper month for superyacht launches, with launches of note including Wally’s 50m Better Place. The yachting world also got its first preview of Lurssen’s 'Project Azzam', which is set to be the world’s largest yacht on completion.
Launch News
111 - Sanlorenzo launched the seventh of its 40Alloy superyacht fleet with the 40.5m motoryacht christened 111. Read more here.
2 Ladies - Italian shipyard RossiNavi launched the 46.3m motoryacht 2 Ladies from its Viareggio facility, where two superyacht constructions - a 48m and a 49 m - remain underway. Read more here.

Almagores II - Southern Wind Shipyard launched the first of its SW 102 DS range, 31.42m Almagores II on 6 May. Designed by Farr Yacht Design, with interior design and exterior styling by Nauta Design, the performance cruiser has been built for a repeat Italian owner. Read more here.

Belle Anna - International Shipyards Ancona has launched the third in a series of three new 50m motoryachts, Belle Anna. The superyacht, designed as a displacement motoryacht, was launched at the shipyard's Ancona facility. Read more here.

Benetti Classic Supreme - Benetti Yachts has launched the Benetti Classic Supreme 132' at its Viareggio facility. The 40m motoryacht is the first in in the new class which will see six composite constructions ranging from 28m to 44m. Read more here.

Benetti Classic 121 - Following Benetti Yachts' launch of its Classic Supreme 132' on 4 May, just two weeks later the Italian shipyard launched a Classic 121' motoryacht, "the iconic symbol of the Benetti brand" according to the shipyard. Read more here.

Better Place - Wally launched the world's largest carbon-fibre sailng sloop, the 50.5m Better Place. The Bugatti blue, environmentally friendly sloop was launched at the WallyEurope facility in Ancona, Italy, and will be delivered to her owners in June. Read more here.

Il Gattopardo - Italian shipyard Permare has launched the second superyacht in its Amer 116’ series. The 35.4m motoryacht has been christened Il Gattopardo and was engineered by Massimo Verme, with an interior by CGA Architectes Associats Barcellona. Read more here.

Lady Petra - Owner and founder of Heesen Yachts, Frans Heesen, witnessed the launch of his own superyacht, the 47m Lady Petra. The launch of the eighth vessel in the shipyard's 47m class saw Heesen announce his retirement from official functions at Heesen Yachts. Read more here.

M - Istanbul-based shipyard Bilgin Yachts launched its distinctive reverse bow Bilgin 132, M. The owner of the 40m motoryacht is an ex-client of Bilgin Yachts, having previously purchased a superyacht from the shipyard in 2008. Read more here.

Plan B - The 75m ADM Kiel-build Plan B has left the shed and embarked upon sea trials before being delivered to her owner. She was originally one of a fleet of six yachts ordered, four of which were cancelled following the financial crisis. Read more here.

Regine - Italian Shipyard Sanlorenzo launched two superyachts this week in May, the 28.6m Silvie VI and the 33m Regine. Both yachts were tailor-made according to the requests of their respective owners and Sanlorenzo’s Ameglia facility saw double celebrations as both superyachts were launched. Read more here.

Vicky - Proteksan Turquoise has launched M/Y Vicky, at 72.6m the largest superyacht the Turkish yard has built to date. Vicky was developed by Proteksan’s in-house team of naval architects and features exterior and interior styling by H2 Yacht Design. With a cruising range of 4750nm at 15 knots, her two Caterpillar 3516B HD A-Rating 1826kW engines generate a top speed of 17 knots. Read more here.

Xnoi - Just a month after the Perini Navi Group launched its 50m ketch Enterprise, the Italian shipyard has launched its 30.65m carbon fibre sloop Xnoi. Read more here.

Away from the launch list, there was plenty of fleet activity too.
New Orders
The Admiral Tecnomar Group signed a contract for a new 38 superyacht. Read more here.
Sunrise Yachts also signed an order, for a second 63m yacht that will be delivered in 2014. Read more here.
Heesen are to begin construction on their first ‘Hull Vane’ superyacht. Read more here.
Progress Reports
The superyacht world watched as Lurssen’s ‘Project Azzam’ was revealed for the first time. On completion she will be the largest superyacht in the world, trumping current leader Eclipse. Read more here.
