Pendennis Plus completes Dona Amélia refit

Superyacht Dona Amélia (previously known as Haida G) has completed her four-month refit at the Pendennis Plus shipyard in Falmouth.

At 71m she is the largest yacht to have been refitted in Pendennis’ 23 year history and is the first refit to have been undertaken by the newly rebranded Pendennis Plus (previously Devonport Yachts).

An engineering survey, service and renovation of her original 1928 Krupp Germania Werft main engines and an overhaul of her generators, AC, water makers, thrusters, hydraulics and windlass were all part of the routine maintenance involved in the refit.

Also undertaken was the larger project of revitalising the teak decks and exterior brightwork, as well as upgrading the AV system, galley equipment and Jacuzzi. The refit also involved maintenance on the yacht’s 15 tanks (fuel, water, grey and black).



Andrew Wilson, chief officer of Dona Amélia spoke positively of the refit experience in Cornwall: “it is always sad to leave, especially after all the warmth and hospitality that has been shown to the crew of Dona Amélia.”

High praise was given to the team at Pendennis by Wilson: “We are very grateful to the team at Pendennis for all your efforts from curry nights, bowling, sailing regattas, and experience the Falmouth 350 year celebration. Plus obviously meeting and becoming friends with many of the Pendennis team!”

The end of the refit saw the motoryacht complete a series of motor trials, which was followed by the Pendennis team gathering at Port Pendennis Marina to say farewell to Dona Amélia and her crew as she left for the Caribbean.
