Cantiere delle Marche expands Darwin Class yachts

Cantiere delle Marche, the young Italian shipyard, which debuted its Darwin 86 yacht at Cannes boat show this year, has announced firm plans to build a bigger Darwin class, paving the way for its induction into the superyacht market.  An owner has already been secured for the Darwin 95, with the keel being laid on 20 October 2011, ready for delivery in March 2013. 

The Darwin 95, which at 29m is at the lower end of the superyacht spectrum but still an incremental increase on her 26m sibling the Darwin 86, will ‘maintain the Darwin family feeling’ whilst featuring expanded interior and exterior spaces.  Like the Darwin 86 she will be designed by Sergio Cutilo of Hydro Tec Srl. 




The sale of the new Darwin class follows on from three recent sales of the Darwin 86.  Vasco Buonpensiere, sales and marketing director, was upbeat about the steady progress of the company.  He said:

“The new nautical year has opened in the best way for Cantiere delle Marche: after less than a year from our birth, we debut with the first Darwin Class in one of the most important boat shows of the international market. Moreover, we have already signed four contracts, including one for the new 95’ Darwin Class yacht.”




Extensions to the new Darwin class include larger room sizes, each increasing by 10m².  All bridges are also noticeably longer and the sundeck has increased from 40m² to 50m².  At a max speed of 13.5 knots she is also faster than the smaller model at 11.5 knots.  

A notable feature of the Darwin 95 is the sky lounge, opened on the wheelhouse, which has been designed to satisfy the owner’s request of steering his yacht and enjoying the company of his guests at the same time.

Interiors will be ‘contemporary, linear and very luminous’ with a totally white lower deck.  Completing the entirely 'made in Italy' feel of the yacht, interior design is by Italian designers, Pierluigi Floris and Marco Veglia.

Cantiere delle Marche opened in October 2010.  It was created by the Ceccheni family and is a formation of superyacht industry professionals from Italy.
