Day one of the HISWA press tour
Feadship is on course for its best year yet, in terms of meterage. Opening the Holland Yachting Group Press Tour 2015, at Feadship's Royal Van Lent facility in Kaag, the yard's marketing director, Farouk Nefzi said that with five superyachts already delivered and a 57m due before the end of the year, this would be the builder's most extensive year to date.
Among the yachts in build are 66.25m #809, featuring an Eidsgaard interior, 70m #812, due in 2017, and #810, which will be delivered to her female owner in August 2015.
With some already high profile deliveries to date this year, including 92m Royal Romance and the first PYC-built vessel, 101.5m Symphony, the yard is going through a buoyant period.
He attributed this to a growing number of, "owners looking for more stability and ability to manage increasing complexity among yards."
With a new 'line' of #700 hull numbers soon to emerge from Aalsmeer, Nefzi felt the yard was in a strong position across all markets: "The U.S. is still number one but we are building several yachts for the Asian region, and we have not suffered from the political problems in Russia. The Middle East is very interesting for us; clients there are becoming more aware of innovation and complexity, and not just length."
The afternoon trip to Royal Huisman and Rondal coincided with the unveiling of Roemer Boogaard as the new managing director, assuming operational control of the sailing yacht business with an enviable market hold and its in-house spars and rigging specialist.
Huisman's 43m German Frers-designed 43m sloop, built for a Taiwanese client will leave the yard in a week. But that still leaves 58m Dubois-designed Project Beast, due in spring 2017, and a 56m Dykstra ketch under construction. The yard is also working on the conversion of performance racer Mari Cha IV under the Huisfit banner.
While other sailing yacht builders struggle to secure business the Huisman/Rondal partnership seems to be reaping rewards - Rondal has a steady stream of in-house and external projects including the mast for Perini Navi's C. 227 and then for a 43m sloop next week, the stepping of a 46m Holland Jachtbouw sloop in late 2015 and a 54m Baltic Yachts sloop.
This has triggered the extension of the yard's paint shed by 10m and its refit hall by 15m, both set for completion by winter 2015. In now-chairwoman, Alice Huisman's words, "we are very happy with the new shareholders. The order book is looking very healthy and we are confident in our direction."
