Be brave, Fraser's Roberto Giorgi tells GSF
By Thea Cheney
Roberto Giorgi, executive chairman of Fraser Yachts, took to the stage for the second keynote of the day. Using his experience from the commercial shipping world, Giorgi shared that with his new remit at Fraser he was "looking for growth and consolidation."
Positive about the brokerage side of the business, Giorgi sees more to be done on the management side of the business. Also citing human resources as an area to focus on, we "can't deny the importance of mentoring." Seeing a shortage of navigators and officers, Giorgi raised his concerns for the future.
Giorgi asked the audience what happened to yachts once they reached a certain age. Michael Breman of Lurssen explained that they either die of "natural causes" namely sinking or fire, or they are refitted extensively and move on. With the commercial shipping world taking the scrapping route as norm, is there something we could learn from this?
As a parting statement to the audience, Giorgi shared "be brave, be courageous, be vocal, constructive, optimistic and aligned."
