SuperyachtNews.com's 12 Days of Christmas
The Superyacht Events Agency is responsible for providing the platform for the industry deliberation and dialogue that leads to action and reform of practices. This year was no different, with a busy schedule taking delegates all over the world, and generating powerful discourse that will help to shape the future trajectory of the industry.
And in 2013 the industry was introduced to an exciting new event format with the launch of the Superyacht Management Meeting format, a smaller think-tank style forum, attracting a limited number of leading professionals from the relevant sector.
However, despite the predominance of heated debate, educational discussions and revelatory conclusions, it wasn’t all work, work, work. The superyacht industry knows how to let its hair down and the events’ social activities allowed delegates to unwind after days of intense introspection.
Global Superyacht Forum 18-20 November, Amsterdam
Widely heralded by attendees as the most successful GSF to date, the industry’s premier forum was given a radical overhaul, with various new initiatives introduced. The FACE2FACE forum, although in its infancy, enabled service providers and suppliers to ‘meet the buyer’, with an unprecedented number of VIP captains, managers and owners’ representatives in attendance.
Whilst the three days were divided into ‘Wealth’, ‘Brain’ and ‘Ocean’, The Superyacht Group received particularly good feedback on the introduction of breakout sessions. These subject-specific sessions ran concurrently and allowed delegates to choose something that interested them and engage in debate, with myriad positives arising from the conclusions drawn.
And once the dust had settled on the day’s conjecture, there was the legendary GSF Dinner to attend in central Amsterdam…
SuperyachtDESIGN Week, 18-20 June, London
Another coup for the Superyacht Events Agency was the first SuperyachtDESIGN Week. Held at the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, the event attracted the great and the good from the design world, as well as the artisans that populate superyachts with life’s little luxuries. As one would expect from the creative sector, the week was all about informality, interactivity and spontaneity. And on the back of some excellent feedback the event will return in 2014 even bigger and better.
Superyacht Management Meetings, various dates, Brussels, Palma, Barcelona, London
The conversation was altogether more serious as representatives of fiscal, crew employment, security and insurance sectors attended the first ever Superyacht Management Meetings. The series began in style, in Brussels, where delegates representing the financial interests of owners met with EU officials to highlight the issues that affect these transient businesses. It’s a long road ahead but discussions such as that have the potential to change the way the industry is viewed by interpreters. The year closed with an equally revealing discussion of the issues afflicting the insurance sector. There was a clear realisation that insurers had the power to shape their own future. The management meetings will return with new subject matter in 2014….
American Superyacht Forum, 14-16 May, Las Vegas
Leading lights from the ever-resilient American market descended on Las Vegas for three days of analysis on what is needed to rejuvenate this valuable market. But in time-honoured fashion, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!
And as always, the Superyacht Events Agency was on hand to help plenty of companies stage bespoke events for their customers.
