Chris Allix to traverse 2,000 miles of waters in the name of charity

This August will see its fair share of gruelling sporting challenges, but as people begin to leave the UK following the 2012 Olympics, Chris Allix will still be undertaking his 2,000 mile kayak haul from Douglas to Monaco.
Allix, a business man from the Isle of Man, will traverse the canal and river systems of Britain and France, as well as the Irish Sea and English Channel, in aid of five children’s charities.
Allix’s preparations, following his completion of the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race in 29 hours and 41 minutes, have seen him paddle the 165 miles of the coast-to-coast Liverpool to Leeds canal linking the Mersey with the Humber, and most recently the 200 miles from Ellesmere Port to Oxford.
The tough challenge will see Allix surrounded by a team of experts to guide and accompany him, particularly when he crosses the English Channel where specific rules and regulations must be followed.
Allix, director of Douglas-based ICM Group, has worked closely with superyacht owners through his company Dominion Marine Corporate Services, providing ownership structures to yacht and superyacht owners.
“I plan to leave the island around June 16th, weather dependent of course,” said Allix. “I am expecting the journey to take three months. The Monaco Show opens in The Principality on September 19th and I want to be there in time for the opening.”

Allix is being backed by sponsors and individuals for the benefit of the five children’s charities: Sailing for the Disabled (Isle of Man), Namaste Children’s home (Nepal), Outward Bound Trust (Monaco), Encompass Trust (UK), and the ICM Charitable Trust (Isle of Man).
Allix has set up a website called Man to Monaco which provides route details and regular information and updates, as well as appealing for corporate and individual sponsors. To view the website please click here.
“I know this is a very personal challenge,” concluded Allix, “but I do so much want to bring help to the charities I have nominated. The world is a harsh place right now and anything we can do to improve the lives of children must be worthwhile.”
