Following our recent announcement of the return to Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, we have spent the past few weeks exploring themes, topics and ideas for the two days. Throughout the year, there are several events, conferences and meetings and we often hear the same old rhetoric, here we go again, more chat and nothing really changes.
So, we have made it our mission with the new format of The Superyacht Design Forum to create an opportunity to take action with a variety of topics in the Design community. Subjects like plagiarism & IP, branding & marketing of designs and concepts, making superyachts make sense, the cost of ownership from a design perspective, charging fees for designs and concepts, energy efficiency and sustainability, understanding the next generation and how superyachts can be smarter will form a key part of the programme.
The Forum will take place in the myriad of showrooms throughout the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour and provide intimate platforms for serious discussion on major agenda items that need solving or a better understanding. The showrooms will accommodate small groups of 30 – 100 at a time and will be highly interactive, this is not a matter of just sitting and listening. There will be five key focal structures to the programme, looking at Innovation / Business / Fun / Sustainability and Creativity, all hosted within The Laboratory, The Board Room, The Playroom, The Green Room & The Drawing Room respectively.
With that said, we are also happy to announce this year’s theme for The Superyacht Design Forum as “ACTION not words.”
This theme will frame the event by setting the objectives, missions and providing the platform for the most intelligent members of the design community to discuss solutions to problems and present new ideas for the next generation of clients.
When we look at ACTION this is what will address:
Analysing - what works in the market and what needs to change.
Challenge –the current model in order to make it fit for the future.
Testing – how are customers using their yachts?
Investigating - how do potential customers live their lifestyle?
Organising - the design community to be smarter, joined up and more responsive.
New Thinking - is at the heart of our future and this needs to be embraced…we cannot keep using same methodologies, thinking or processes in the way we always have, it’s time to change.
The team behind The Superyacht Design Forum have been watching the various events and decided that we want deliver something different and that will make the market react and possibly change the way we think. As Dickie Bannenberg said after our recent Superyacht Design Summit in March, the precursor to the Superyacht Design Forum, “Utterly mind focusing talk on sustainability benchmarking in commercial architecture, from David Nelson at Foster & Partners!” So, by sharing ideas and opinions from other industries, we can perhaps learn and maybe change our approach.
