Design picks at The Superyacht Forum

From the 'Designer's Den', to a session on ‘What design can do’, here are the design picks for TSF…

Following the decision to combine The Superyacht Forum (TSF) with SuperyachtDESIGN Week, we thought long and hard about which elements needed to be addressed by not just designers, but the wider market as well. As a result, the final day of TSF is the dedicated Designers’ Day, where we will discuss various elements of design, and, in this new and improved format, I’m incredibly excited about it!

Following from the exclusive welcome design supper, we’ll begin at the sociable hour of 10:30am in our new venue, The Amtrium, with a session on ‘What Design can Do’, with designer, maverick, innovator, artist and social activist Richard Van Der Laken. Van Der Laken founded Designpolitie, an Amsterdam-based creative agency focusing on the design and strategy of visual communication. In this session, he will give an insight into his unique perspectives on design from outside of the industry, inspiring us to try something a little different in superyacht design. At the same time, Benjamin Toth of CEA Industrial Design and Hamid Bekradi will take to the stage to discuss the if the advent of the much-talked-about flat panels gives designers more freedom to express their creativity.

After lunch, which will also be held in the Amtrium, rather than the Rai, we’ll gather for the ‘Activate-Innovate’ session at 3pm. The workshop will function as a fun, intense and divergent investigation on two topics of growth and development concerning the superyacht industry: realising concepts, and advanced materials and manufacturing implementation. (This workshop will be hosted as a crowd-sourcing ideas pod with Robert Henderson, the founder of Etcetera.)

Later in the afternoon, we’re especially excited for The Designers’ Den. Here, established, eminent designers will take to the stage and advise younger designers on their concepts, offering their unique viewpoints to the next generation. Both junior designers currently working in studios and design students from universities are encouraged to submit their work, either publicly or anonymously (submissions are currently open and can be sent to rachel@thesuperyachtgroup.com) , to the panel. Designs will then be put forward to celebrated superyacht designers, including Ken Freivokh and Martin Francis, who will review the work and suggest ways to enhance the respective concepts.

The full programme for The Superyacht Forum is available to view here, and you can register to attend by clicking here. The event will be held from 13-16 November in Amsterdam.
