Zuccon International Project has announced that it will collaborate with Picchiotti Yachts, the motoryacht division of Perini Navi, for the first time. The project, known as the 45m PY Heritage, has been developed to cater for two potential purposes – as a classic expedition yacht or as a support vessel for larger superyachts.

According to the design studio, the collaborative project is a tribute to Gerhard Gilgenast – “one of the most important architects to work with Picchiotti Yachts in the past”, according to the studio. As a result, the 45m superyacht/support vessel has a number of design elements inspired by the work of Gilgenast himself, translated in a slightly more contemporary way.

“I can’t help but feel extremely honoured by this new collaboration,” says Bernardo Zuccon International Project’s naval architect. Picchiotti doesn’t need any introduction because it has written an important chapter in yachting history both in Italy and worldwide.”

Zuccon continues, “Setting out along this path is a source of pride for our firm, particularly as we’re doing so with a project that is both experimental and extremely fascinating, as well as one that wants to pay tribute to an architect that has made an important contribution to Picchiotti Yachts over the years.”

The 45m yacht has a very straight profile, which includes an angular hull and aft positioned superstructure, much like a traditional trawler. While this angular and contemporary style is innovative and experimental, the yacht’s profile does in some ways replicate previous projects by Picchiotti, all of which have this straight, almost simplistic appearance. For example, the 55.7m motoryacht Galileo G, delivered in 2011 and designed by Philippe Briand, also has an angular profile akin to the new PY Heritage.

Furthermore, the interior of the yacht has been designed with a floor-to-ceiling height of 3m on the main deck with plenty of glass. The result is a bright open interior, enhancing the all-important relationship with the sea.
