New high-air performance filters yield good results

Superyacht 'Allegria' was installed with Walker's air filters for her twin Caterpillar 3512 engines at the Miami Boat Show. Her engineer has reported good results.…

Walker Engineering, the US company that provides high performance products for marine diesel engines, has achieved a good response on initial testing of its new air filters for the Caterpillar 3500 series.

The feedback came from the chief engineer onboard 46m superyacht Allegria, testing the filters on a cruise back from the Miami International Boat Show.

Johan van Eeden, Allegria's engineer said:
“I’m very happy to see the filters have performed well. They've shown a high airflow rate and a small drop in exhaust temperature because of the cooler air coming into the engine…it’s been a little rough out but the filters have done what Walker said they were going to do.”

The luxury yacht Allegria was positioned just north of the Fontainebleau hotel at the Miami International Boat Show. She was equipped with twin Caterpillar 3512 engines, and the Walker 'High-Air Performance' Air Filters, relatively new to the market having launched late 2011.

The Walker filters are designed to drop right into the existing air filter housing of Caterpillar 3508, 3512, and 3516 engines, to make installation and service quicker and easier.

“We have been asked on many occasions for a high performance air filter for Caterpillar 3500 series engines, that can be utilized without the need for retrofitting the engines," said Michael DeLillo, vice president of sales and marketing for Walker.

“These filters provide improved air flow, better engine performance, and efficiency, as well as having a filter media designed to handle moisture and oil mist without clogging,” DeLillo continued.

The filters have been US Navy tested and approved, and are part of the National Stocking System that allows any navel vessel quick access to them.
