With the launch of Perini Navi’s 73-metre motoryacht, Vitruvius, expected towards the end of February 2013, tender specialist Cockwells has released renders of its 9.5-metre tender for the mothership.

Designed by Andrew Wolstenholme and the Cockwells team, the Cornwall-based boat builder was approached to create the owner’s tender, which will be capable of transporting 12 guests and two crew. “We achieved the brief by conducting continuous meetings and exchanges between our team and the Vitruvius engineers and captain,” explains Henry Ward at Cockwells. “They were involved in the design process at every stage, meaning the tender will be produced to their exact requirements.”

Adopting an Epoxy foam sandwich construction process and finished with teak decking, the tender features a custom smoked glass windscreen, salt-water resistant leather upholstery and a folding bimini. The design team has also included a wet bar behind the helm, and a bathing platform with a dive ladder and shower at the stern. An electric toilet and basin is situated at the bow.

The day tender is complete with underwater lighting around the bathing platform and in the walkway, and a self-launching stainless steel anchor and chain at the bow.

Two Yanmar 6LPA STP2 marine diesel engines, producing 315hp each will achieve a maximum speed of 40 knots, using jet drives. The tender will also be fitted with electric bow thrusters for additional maneuverability. “In order to launch and recover the owner’s tender and crew tender as easily as possible — in terms of using the same cranes, and for maintenance purposes — the engines and fittings have been kept consistent,” concludes Ward.
