After a year in discussion, Royal Huisman has announced the signing of a new 81m sailing yacht to an Asian client. With a contemporary, yet classical profile, the three-masted schooner will be the largest aluminium sailing yacht to date.
Speaking to the shipyard at the Monaco Yacht Show, it’s clear that this yacht is a wonderful illustration of Royal Huisman’s diversity and willingness to move away from their traditional style to cater to the unique requests of owners.
Currently the shipyard has both contemporary and classical yachts under construction, emphasising further its ability to specialise in both styles of sailing yacht.
But it's not only the yard's sailing yachts that are generating interest at the show – the DART65, which was unveiled this month, has been generating a huge amount of interest over the last few days, say Royal Huisman.
With particularly squared angles, the 81m project will be a stunning blend of classic and contemporary and, upon completion, is likely to be socially raced in some of the worlds most famous regattas. Designed by Dykstra Naval Architects and designer Mark Whiteley, the interior of the yacht follows the same contemporary theme of the exterior with light and fresh styling.
The original brief, however, was quite different from the project seen here but the 12 months of deliberation saw many changes.
“Were extremely excited and proud to be part of the creative team for this new 81m,” says Thys Nikkels of Dykstra Yacht Design. “This contemporary schooner for fast passage making is one to tick off the bucket list”
According to Royal Huisman, the keel of the 81m will be laid in the next month and the yacht will be completed by 2020.
