New Zealand boat builder, Smuggler Marine, has set its focus on the superyacht industry with their range of Strata RIBs.
The company claim that their series, ranging from 4.3m to 11m LOA, can be customised to an owner's requirements ensuring consistency with the mother ship. Indeed, the team already work closely with a number of yards, as Managing Director David Pringle commented: “Though we are primarily a production builder, our special projects division is able to build a boat to suit nearly any specific requirement – it’s this ability that has made our Strata range so very popular...we work very closely with a number of superyacht builders in New Zealand and believe that flexibility is the key to crafting the ultimate tender for the discerning owner.”
The origins go back three years, when the first Strata 600 was built for the Fitzroy fast cruising sloop, SY Salperton. Currently in build is a Strata 630 superyacht tender being built for a European owner, the 8th 630 model to come out of the factory.
“Our Strata 600 and 630 are very popular at the moment. The majority of models we build we fit a Volvo D3 160hp inboard diesel, coupled to either a sterndrive or a jet. The diesel option gives the flexibility of being able to fuel it straight from the main tanks of the mother ship.”
The flagship of the Smuggler range is the Strata 750, a tender mysteriously described as "a boat that goes where no other RIB has dared to go".
Designed to perform and tested in New Zealand’s harsh offshore conditions, the Strata 750 has the proven performance of the Smuggler 27 degree deep vee hull – allowing the user to go hard and fast, no matter what the conditions.
Despite the popularity of the 600 and 630 series, Smuggler Marine note that they have received increased enquiries for the Strata 750. This could be put down to the versatility a larger tender offers - from watersports to transporting guests in greater comfort. This interest has led the company to, put even larger Strata models into development.
The Strata range are all finished to the Smuggler Marine's basic requirements, built to the CE standard with a 5-year structural hull warranty.
