TURKEY, Istanbul. The 11.4-metre Fusion concept by Red Design is one of many to be inspired by the automotive industry such as Dobroserdov Design’s amphibious GT Tender and Luiz de Basto‘s AM Voyage 55. However, the exterior of Fusion was specifically influenced by Italian car manufacturer, Lamborghini, in a similar way to Messerschmitt Yachts’ Conqueror and Mauro Lecchi’s 15-metre sports boat.
“Fusion is a powerboat based on the Gallardo series and can carry four guests,” reveals Naval Architect & Marine Engineer at the studio, Fatih Sürekli. “Her exterior mimics a race car and this design emphasises the appearance of speed even when stationary. Her sharp, aggressive lines in combination with the soft, oval lines of the sea, help to reflect this sporty look.”
The exterior aesthetics are matched throughout the cockpit in the design of the four seats, steering wheel and dashboard. A sunbathing pad on the foredeck allows guests to enjoy the sun when travelling at moderate speeds. Below this area is a single cabin, which can sleep two and includes an en suite and a small kitchen. Continuing the sporty theme, the interior has a futuristic design and is finished with a light colour scheme.
The carbon fibre and epoxy resin sandwich construction will be powered by two 450hp diesel engines using a pod drive system, achieving a maximum speed of 48 knots. “Bigger engines can be used to exceed 50 knots,” explains Sürekli. “Surface drives are also an option in order to achieve a higher maximum speed. Manoeuvrability, low fuel consumption and the ability to achieve higher cruising speeds, influenced our choice to use pod drives.”
With clients in Istanbul and Dubai interested in the design, the studio is hopeful to receive an order soon.
