Cockwells unveils the new Titian Tender

Cockwells unveils new 10.5m tender, based on an original concept by RWD…

British shipyard Cockwells, best known for its extensive range of superyacht tenders, has introduced a new tender which will be unveiled at the 2017 Monaco Yacht Show. Known as the Titian Tender, this 10.5m bespoke boat is based on an original concept created by British design studio RWD, with interior styling by Cullum Bespoke, also based in the UK.

With copper-infused caulking and silk panels for the headlining, it doesn’t sound like much expense has been spared on the new project which, from what we’ve seen from the renderings thus far, is looking particularly good. With a long wooden hull, the Titian Tender has a slightly more modern and angular take on exterior design, with simplistic and undisturbed lines.

“From the stainless-steel fittings that have been specifically cast, the virtual anchor and the hugely manoeuvrable twin-jet drive to the dynamic positioning and touchscreen EmpirBus control systems, the Titian Tender certainly makes a statement,” says founder and managing director Dave Cockwell. Additionally, Cockwell believes it’s these particularly challenging design requests that Cockwells thrives upon.

“It has been a privilege to breathe life to into this design,” continues Cockwell. “We can only hope that it will bring as much pleasure to the owner as it has to the Cockwells team in realising her vision.”

The approach that Cullum Bespoke has taken with the interior will mimic the contemporary style of the exterior as Pete Cullum-Kenyon, founder of Cullum Bespoke explains, "My approach was to take a modern sharp design and add a little twist by building it with traditional materials and warm contemporary accents, such as copper." The owner, who the shipyard has described as "an internationally respected multimedia artist", has also opted for a contemporary-chic copper galley and also features original fine art inside.

"I've also used subtle tricks from car design, such as catchlights and the graphic of the glass on the foredeck to create yet more lines drawing you to the bow, stretching her visually and masking her longer and more elegant," explains Cullum-Kenyon. The team also found clever ways of disguising essential elements such as hatches in order to avoid interrupting the flow of the lines over the deck areas.

Much like the exterior of the tender, the interior has been greatly influenced by high end solid-wood furniture and architectural spaces.

With the hundreds of tender designs on the market, my feeling is that tenders in particular are actually quite a difficult design to get right, in the context of keeping it practical. Cockwells, with the initial design from RWD, has managed to keep it simple yet interesting, and exceptional to look at. While this is predominantly a modern tender, the yellow cedar is a more classical addition which makes the Titian Tender a little different from the countless white or metallic tenders on the water.

The new tender will be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show Tender Show (TS5) from the 28th September to 1st October.
