Designed specifically for the 105’ catamaran Necker Belle, the Virgin Limited Edition Necker Nymph is a DeepFlight three person aero submarine. Designed and built by engineer, Graham Hawkes of Hawkes Ocean Technologies, the Necker Nymph is said to be the first of its kind to hit the market. Sir Richard Branson will be transporting this newest edition to Virgin Limited Edition's properties to his private resort on Necker Island this month.
Gliding on the water’s surface like an aeroplane on a runway, the sub will be operated by a joystick to smoothly dive down into the depths. Individual ‘wind-shields’ remove the pressure of slipstream, enabling comfortable speed and ranges previously unthinkable without enclosing the pilots. The open cockpits afford near ideal 360 degree viewing for occupants, creating a uniquely open experience. Unlike all conventional subs which use ballast to sink in the water, Necker Nymph uses downward ‘lift’ on the wings to move down through the water. The sub has near-zero environmental impact with its positive buoyancy that prevents it from landing on a reef, and its low light noise emissions ensure the fragile ocean ecosystems will not be disturbed.
