Yesterday a group of some 30 people (and one spaniel, Lily) from the superyacht community congregated in Regent's Park with one purpose: to help raise money and awareness for charity YachtAid Global through blisters, sweat but luckily no tears for a 10km run. In celebration of The Crew Report's 50th issue this summer, the athletes - a term that can be confirmed due to the completion of the course by everyone - joined forces for the worthy cause in the form of the TCR YachtAid Global Gold Challenge.

The runners: still smiling after the morning's efforts

YachtAid Global places medical, conservation and educational supplies on superyachts planning on passing by coastal communities in need, "changing the world without changing course". Congratulate us by donating to the TCR YAG Gold Challenge fundraising pot here (make sure you enter every field, and if you aren't US-based, please select state VA).

Meeting at an unusually early hour for a Sunday morning in order to limber up, the team set off on the course that takes in one of the most beautiful parks in the city at 9.30am. Everyone had different goals, some wanting to beat a personal best, some wanting to beat colleagues, others happy to complete the distance for the good cause.

The pre- and post-run athletes - still smiling after 10km!

The fastest round the 10km was Will Mathieson, news editor for The Superyacht Report and Synfo.com, in 45m 41s. Fastest lady was Esther Barney, editor of The Crew Report, at 50m 35s, though Tess De La Mare was close behind.

Volunteers from many companies outside The Yacht Report Group also got involved. The three runners from Clyde & Co included Matt Hannaford, Farah Mudaffer and Giles Butcher Hill Dickinson was represented by Tony Allen and Laura Neill and brothers Mark and Nigel Upton from EYOS Tenders took to the course together. Also making their way around the park were Captain Scott Dillon, David Gates from Complete Yacht Solutions, Leon Batchelor from Arc & Co, and Lee Savage from Ocean LED.

After the exertions were over, appetites and thirsts were satisfied with a picnic lunch in the park and some post-run banter and prizes were awarded.

Everyone enjoyed some Pimm's and picnic after their exertions

With thanks to Clyde & Co, the superyacht law firm with offices across the globe, which sponsored the runners' T-shirts.

Make sure all our efforts can be converted into valuable school and medical supplies!

WHAT IS YACHTAID GLOBAL?
YAG was set up in May 2006 by captain-turned-yacht agent Mark Drewelow who, once ashore, felt a great desire to stay connected with the communities he had visited. The charity places much-needed medical and educational supplies on superyachts to be delivered en route to their destinations. Deliveries have been carried out throughout the Americas, from Alaska to Chile, all around the Pacific Region, and south-east Asia.
Some of the YAG deliveries to communities in need so far have been done by Slojo, Seljm, Ice, Rosehearty, Beagle V, Georgia, Big Fish, Seven C’s, LTC, Janice of Wyoming, Steadfast, Triple Seven and numerous additional high-profile operations that prefer not to be named.
