SPS receives ISO certification

Special Projects and Services has received full ISO 28000: ISO/PAS 28007 accreditation for security management systems compliance. …

Special Projects and Services Ltd has been awarded full certification and accreditation for ISO 28000: ISO/PAS 28007. Following a rigorous validation process, SPS has been independently certified through MSS Global via the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS), with full compliance to the new security management system specification.

The ISO Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 28007, as part of the ISO 28000 Security Management System family, establishes the internationally recognised guidelines for Private Maritime Security Companies (PMSCs) providing Private Contracted Armed Security Personnel (PCASP) on board ships. ISO/PAS 28007 is the only published standard dealing with armed guards on ships and contains essential information for PMSCs and for the shipping companies selecting a PMSC. It also outlines sector-specific requirements for applying ISO 28000:2007, Specification for security management systems for the supply chain. Compliance with ISO/PAS 28007 is therefore acknowledged within certification to ISO 28000.

The document addresses security management system elements such as resilience, planning, resources, training and awareness, communication and documentation. It also outlines operational requirements for dealing with issues such as: scene and casualty management, incident reporting and investigation, health and safety and customer complaints. ISO/PAS 28007 also includes recommendations for performance evaluation such as monitoring, audits, management and continual improvement. Implementation will enable security companies to demonstrably evidence their competence in the provision of PCASP for anti-piracy operations on board ships
