Columbus Yachts a branch of the Palumbo Group, has finished building a third shed on Pier 37 in the Port of Naples to house the construction of its new 65m Custom Classic superyacht. The keel of the 65m, Hull #C04 is due to be laid before Christmas and the construction is scheduled to be completed in 2015.
The shed is built to optimise the painting and interior outfitting activities and will be equipped with smoke and dust control extraction plant. The 65m will be launched from the new shed on the shipyard’s 1500 tonne floating dry-dock which, together with a 6000 tonne dry-dock, is also available for refit work.
This is the third project on Columbus Yachts’ order books after the sale of Prima, the 54m Custom Classic sold at the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show. In the wake of Prima’s success Columbus Yachts received orders for a 55m Custom Classic and for a 40m Custom Sport Hybrid, respectively scheduled for completion in 2013 and 2014.
The newly built and outfitted shed, with an overall length of 77m, net width of 17m and net height of 19m, is one further step in the Group’s long term strategy of establishing a leading network of construction, conversion and repair facilities in the heart of Mediterranean which to date occupy over 500,000sqm.
