The Palumbo Group’s have lately increased their presence in the superyacht industry by acquiring the facilities of Malta Superyacht Services. Palumbo was declared the preferred bidder for the tender of Malta Superyacht Services last December, but didn’t take control of the yard until this week, just in time for the spring refit season.
Mr. Giorgio Filippi, Palumbo’s legal advisor, brokered the deal. The contract is worth €29,4 million to the Maltese government, which includes an annual rent of €500.000 to be paid for 30 years. The yard has a total area of approx 45,000sqm; comprising two dry docks of 160m x 25m and 140m x 18m. The latter is also equipped with retractable sheds that are used for painting.
Palumbo also own the superyacht brand Columbus Yachts, and they have stated that they are very much looking forward to the challenge that the new acquisition will bring. The vision for the group for the facility in Malta is to further develop its capabilities to build it into a premier superyacht maintenance and refit centre.
Palumbo believe the only way to achieve this goal will be through investment in its facilities and investment into human resources. The surrounding network of refit and repair related businesses should enable Palumbo Malta Superyachts Ltd. to meet the most complicated of customer demands. Palumbo are confident that the will soon become a competitive force to be reckoned with in the refit and repair industry.
