New shareholder supports Camper & Nicholsons’ entry into the Asian market

Lai Sun Development Company Limited will assist the full-service brokerage firm's global growth and entry into the Asian market.…

Camper & Nicholsons has announced that Hong Kong-based Lai Sun Development Company Limited is a new shareholder after signing an agreement to invest in the group. According to a statement issued to the media, the objective of the investment is to reinforce the company’s capital position, assist its global growth and create a platform for which it can expand into the Asian market, utilising a valuable link for Asian brokerage and charter clients.

“They’re extremely savvy and deeply experienced in the luxury sector in Hong Kong”, begins Kurt Fraser, Director of Marketing at Camper & Nicholsons International. “Not only will their understanding of the culture be extremely helpful, but they are yacht owners themselves and are already passionately immersed in the industry.” He adds that developing a strategy for a Western company’s entry into Asian markets can not only take years, but is nigh on “impossible” without the assistance of local partners.

Lai Sun Development Company Limited is a member of the Lai Sun Group. Its principal business activities include property investment, property development, investment holdings and the investment in and operation of hotels and restaurants. Fincantieri S.p.A and the 1782 Group, which continue to strengthen the management team with experienced professionals, are to maintain their shareholding.

The investment sees the board of directors welcome Peter Lam on board as chairman, with Paolo Casani as managing director. “Adding anybody of that calibre, corporate knowledge level and skillset to your board builds significant momentum and fine-tunes your long-term strategy”, Fraser continues. “We hope that there will be industry-wide recognition of the potential in Asia and that we have the support of charter clientele and owners to explore this part of the world as an alternative to the traditional cruising grounds.”
