The latest project from Mourjan Marinas is now under construction; the new marina is located in the multi-million dollar investment project of Lusail City in Doha, Qatar. The marina will begin operating in mid-December after Qatar National Day and Mourjan intend to make it one of the premier marine facilities in the region. The Lusail City development is part of the Qatari government’s plans to invest heavily in all areas of the economy to gradually lessen the country’s dependence on its oil and natural gas reserves.
Lusail city itself covers an area of 35sqkm and will eventually provide accommodation for up to 250,000 people. This is a massive development with marinas, residential areas and island resorts, commercial districts, luxury shopping and leisure facilities. The new 96-birth marina will be the first to be built in the area and aims to contribute to the luxury atmosphere with an array of modern facilities including three water front lounge areas, cafes, a five star concierge service and all the amenities necessary to maintain a superyacht. The walkways will be equipped with integrated misting technology to keep them cool during the summer months, along with fitted sunshade structures. Matthew Bate, Director of Operations for Mourjan Marinas IGY commented; “It will set new benchmarks for the yachting experience locally and internationally and will be the place to be for yacht owners in Qatar and beyond. This marina has been designed with the needs of the local market in mind and nothing like this has been built before in this region.”

Considering that Qatar has one of the highest rates of carbon dioxide emissions per capita in the world, it is laudable that this marina is also attempting to be an eco-friendly development. Mourjan Marinas will be responsible for the design, construction and operation of all marinas in Lusail City.
