Horizon City Marina due for imminent completion

The Horizon Group is set to open its brand new luxury marina at the upcoming Taiwan International Boat show. The new marina will be able to accommodate yachts up to 40 metres...…

Horizon Yachts have long been flying the flag for the yachting sector in Taiwan and now they are helping to increase yachting presence in the country with the construction with the new luxury Horizon City Marina. Located in the centre of Kaohsiung’s Asia New Bay Area, the marina will be the ideal spot for ensuring that visiting yachts are in close proximity to local yachting infrastructure and businesses as well as surrounding hotels, restaurants, and shopping centres.

Local government have shown increasing support for high-end tourism and culture, and over the years the Horizon Group has worked with them to help develop a focused recreational yachting industry. The latest step in this development is the imminent completion of the Horizon City Marine. Located in Kaohsiung, the city forms the heart of Taiwan’s yachting sector, and is home to superyacht yards including Horizon, Kha Shing and Dyna Craft.  Julian Jesson, Taiwan General Manager of Simpson Marine told us that "The marina is the first privately operated marina to be opened in Taiwan since Hobi Hu Marina was built in Kenting in 1995 so it is great for Kaohsiung City, as they did not have a marina to speak of. It is also good for Taiwan as a whole as it represents the fourth marina to be opened in the last 18th months; the other three new marinas were built by government."

A collaborative effort between Horizon and marina manufacturer Australia Superior Corporate, the marina’s 37 berths will accommodate yachts from 12 to 40 metres. Built to high international standards, the Horizon Group say that all the marina equipment is of world-class quality and safety.  Horizon placed emphasis not only on the function but also the aesthetics of Horizon City Marina.  The Group collaborated with MAYU Architects – made famous in Taiwan with their successful projects the Dadong Art Center and Hougmaogang Cultural Park – to design the central marina building on shore as create a welcoming marine environment.

The new marina development has been welcomed by local superyacht personnel. SuperyachtNews.com spoke to Captain Rupert Dean of M/Y Inspiration, based in Taiwan, who said: "As a superyacht captain I see the new Horizon City Marina as very exciting news for yachting in the Asia Pacific region. Taiwan has long had a proud history of building quality yachts, however, the concept of yacht ownership here is relatively new, meaning berthing facilities have been limited. This new marina coupled with all the supporting yacht services around it, offers great opportunities for Taiwanese owners and visiting yachts to have work done in Kaohsiung, whilst enjoying all the attractions that the Asia New Bay development has to offer. This can only be good news for the local economy and Taiwan in general. Kaohsiung is now firmly on the world map!"

Horizon City Marina is scheduled to open during the first Taiwan International Boat Show May 8th-11th.  “With the establishment of a world-class private luxury yacht marina, Horizon Group looks forward to providing further after-sales service and support to our Taiwan and Asian owners; we also hope this marina will encourage more people to embrace and enjoy the new yachting lifestyle in Taiwan,” said the Horizon Yachts team.
