Compositeworks to become MB92 La Ciotat

Following its acquisition last year by the MB92 Group, Compositeworks will undergo a rebrand…

MB92 Group has announced that, following its acquisition of Compositeworks, the La Ciotat-based shipyard, of which it claimed a majority stake on 31 October 2017, a unanimous decision has been made for the facility to undergo a rebrand to become MB92 La Ciotat. The work to ensure that the French arm of the group is on brand will be taking place over the coming weeks.

MB92, the Barcelona-based refit yard and member of the Dogus Group, and Compositeworks have been working in close collaboration since the takeover of the Blohm+Voss La Ciotat dry dock facility and a harmonious relationship in their core values has brewed. As such, it has been decided that Compositeworks should adopt the MB92 brand to best represent the recent merging of the two enterprises. Retaining some of Compositeworks’ heritage and cultural values, the MB92 logo shape has been tweaked to represent France and will retain the blue that Compositeworks has come to be known by.

“This is an extremely exciting time for our company and we look forward to showing our new visual identity in person and alongside our sister yard, MB92 Barcelona, at the Monaco Yacht Show,” explains Ben Mennem, founder of Compositeworks and managing director of MB92 La Ciotat, in a statement to the press.

“We have discovered over the course of the last year that each of [the yards] has many strengths and we have worked hard to combine them. We are confident that our clients will instantly feel the positive effects of our new group status, whether that be a larger pool of expertise or improved health and safety. Our goal together is simply excellence and the highest client satisfaction.”

Pepe García-Aubert, president of the MB92 Group, says, “We are very proud to be expanding our brand which enables us to be closer to our clients and offer them better services. We now have two extraordinary facilities at our disposal and, above all, a team of 250 staff who are professional, experienced and totally committed to providing our clients with an excellent refit experience.

The initial declaration of an intended partnership between MB92 and Compositeworks was announced at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2017. It became official on 31 October 2017 when an agreement was signed by both parties for MB92 to acquire a majority stake in Compositeworks.

The union would allow the brands to take full advantage of the La Ciotat facilities in order to attract high quality projects and further develop the service offering to clients. This included the co-operation of Blohm+Voss La Ciotat; the 200m dry dock.

In July 2018, MB92 strengthened its position in La Ciotat and acquired the remaining 51 per cent of Blohm+Voss La Ciotat. MB92 had previously held a 49 per cent stake but then became the exclusive operator of the “La Grande Forme” dry dock at La Ciotat Shipyards with ownership and operation of the facility.

In celebration of their 25th anniversary in 2017, MB92, in partnership with The Superyacht Group, produced Superyacht25, a curation of icons, images and innovations from the last 25 years of superyachting.
